2018 was a Record Year for NI Hotel Sales
 
NISRA accommodation figures for Jan-Dec 2018 show there were 4.5 million bed-spaces sold in hotels, guesthouses, guest accommodation and B&Bs, an increase of 4% on Jan-Dec 2017.
2018 was a record year for hotel demand in terms of room and bed sales with over 3.7 million hotel guests accommodated, there were an additional 109,000 rooms and 133,000 bed-spaces sold in hotels during Jan-Dec 2018. However both room (70%) and bed-space (55%) occupancy recorded decreases, as an impact of the influx of hotel rooms and beds during this period, particularly in Belfast.
At the end of December 2018 the number of available hotel rooms in Belfast increased by almost one third compared with December 2017, resulting in an extra 2,400 bed-spaces to be filled each night. This increase impacted on Belfast occupancy, however the number of Belfast hotel rooms sold increased compared with Jan-Dec 2017.
The hotel data specialist STR report that the average daily rate (ADR) for NI hotels was £79.09 during Jan-Dec 2018, up by 1% on Jan-Dec 2017.
The guest house/guest accommodation/B&B sector delivered a strong performance during Jan-Dec 2018 with both room and bed sales recording a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2017.
