Record year for hotel sales

The latest available NISRA accommodation figures show there were 4.5 million bed-spaces sold in hotels, guesthouses, guest accommodation and B&Bs during Jan-Dec 2018, an increase of 4% on Jan-Dec 2017.

2018 was a record year for hotel demand in terms of room and bed sales, with over 3.7 million hotel guests accommodated, and an additional 109,000 rooms and 133,000 bed-spaces sold during Jan-Dec 2018. At the end of December 2018 the number of available hotel rooms in Belfast had increased by almost one third compared with December 2017, resulting in an extra 2,400 bed-spaces to be filled each night. This increase impacted on Belfast occupancy, however the number of Belfast hotel rooms sold increased compared with Jan-Dec 2017.

The hotel data specialist STR report that the average daily rate (ADR) for NI hotels was £79.09 during Jan-Dec 2018, up by 1% on Jan-Dec 2017.

The guest house/guest accommodation/B&B sector delivered a strong performance during Jan-Dec 2018 with both room and bed sales recording a 6% increase compared with 2017.
